With two days left in February I made it to Aranjuez, a city an hour south of Madrid. Along with Toledo and Alcalá de Henares, it is a popular day-trip from the capital. I didn’t know anything about the town until I spent the day there with Christina. She had been invited by her colleague and Aranjuez native, Jose Miguel. The three of us toured the city’s grand palace, strolled the gardens, and were followed by a persistent restaurant worker.

This is actually a church. The building was unique in that it had adjoining arcades through which modern-day traffic still runs.
